This course satisfies the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling, 12-hour Qualified Supervisor Training, which is required, for licensed providers seeking to supervise registered interns.

This is a two day, Live Zoom Video Conference Course.  Class size is limited. Once the limit is reached, registration will be closed.

Course Objectives:

  • Review the Florida laws and board rules governing interns and supervision
  • Become Familiar with the major models of supervision for clinical social work, marriage and family therapy or mental health counseling
  • Gain skills to develop a personal model of supervision, which will be drawn from existing models of supervision and preferred styles of therapy
  • Understand the co-evolving dynamics of therapist-client and supervisor-therapist-client relationships
  • Explore the contextual variables in practice such as culture, gender, ethnicity, power, and economics
  • Become familiar with ethical, legal, and regulatory issues of supervision
  • Understand the role of evaluation in supervision
  • Explore distinctive issues that arrive in supervision
  • Understand the importance of self-care in supervision and practice
  • Explore methods of self-care
  • Become Familiar with adult styles of learning as it applies to supervision
  • Explore challenges that interns may bring to the experience
  • Become familiar with methods of assessment and intervention when dealing with difficult interns
